The Mask is Carrey's best yet

The Mask is one of those very original movies that everyone likes to see. It has great special effects, good actors (Cameron Diaz is wonderful in her movie debut), and the story is very good. This is no doubt Carrey's best movie to date, and if he makes any other movies like this, it won't be his last.

The Mask begins with underwater where a man finds a box chained and locked. He opens it and a pipe falls on him. The box opens and a mysterious, wooden mask floats up. The movie then turns to Stanley Ipkiss (Jim Carrey) and his friend, Charlie (Richard Jeni). They gawk at a woman who walks into the bank. She walks over to them where Charlie tries to get her business, but she goes to Stanley. She introduces herself as Tina Carlyle (Cameron Diaz).

She seems to be there to open a new account but actually she is helping her crook-boyfriend, Dorian (Peter Greene), break into the bank. Later that night, he borrows a car from his car repair shop to meet Charlie at the Coco-Bongo club. On the way home, the car breaks down (literally) and he finds a floating pile of trash that looks like a body. He jumps into the river to get it and finds the wooden mask. The cops find him and take him home.

He tries the mask on and he changes into, what else? The Mask. The movie is full of wild special effects and very funny. When he puts the mask on, he becomes a wild man who brings his inner most desires to life. The movie is at its best when he puts the mask on. The best part of the movie is the dance sequence. It is fun to watch, but be prepared, there is a slow part right after it.

Milo, the sidekick dog, is very cute. He provides a lot of humor in his own way. The dog is trained very well and some of the things he does seem impossible, but they are done. Milo helps Stanley a lot, including one time when he actually puts the mask on. It is a very funny moment and very original.

The movie has many plot twists, most provided by Tina and Peggy Brandt (Amy Yasbeck). They both betray other people. Tina betrays her boyfriend and Peggy betrays Stanley. The twists bring a lot of depth into the movie. The story is original and is the best of any Carrey movie.

The Mask is rated PG-13. It has some vulgar remarks, mostly by Carrey when he has the mask on. There is some profanity and some comic violence. Also, there is a scene where the dog pees on one of the bad guys. The movie isn't for young kids but if you are old enough to understand some of the jokes, then you should enjoy the movie.
